密歇根理工大學(xué)初期以龐大的理工科招生規(guī)模以及出色的工程技術(shù)研究聞名。二戰(zhàn)后，學(xué)校學(xué)科發(fā)展不斷完善，逐漸形成了五個學(xué)院。1928年，美國空軍在霍頓校區(qū)設(shè)置了美國空軍預(yù)備軍官訓(xùn)練團（ROTC），用以培養(yǎng)年輕軍官。院系設(shè)置具體如下：
